Rate of hepatitis B cases in Europe 2021, by country and type
Hungary had the highest notification rate of chronic hepatitis B in Europe in 2021 with 8.13 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Croatia with a notification rate of approximately seven. A chronic hepatitis B infection is one which persists for longer than six months. The rate of infection across the whole of the EEA was 0.3 per 100,000 for acute infections and 2.79 per 100,000 for chronic infections.
